Warden Demille Topps

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Warden Demille Topps was hired by Sheriff Crowe and began his job as Warden of the Washington Parish Jail on July 1, 2008. 

Warden Topps served in the US Army with the 12th Combat Aviation Group. After six years service he honorably discharged and joined the civilian sector. 

He earned an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from University of Weisbaden .   Later he completed Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) levels 1 and 2 in Slidell, Louisiana.

Prior to his hire at the Sheriff’s Office, he worked as a training instructor for the Slidell Police Academy and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.  While working for both agencies, he completed a variety of law enforcement training in different fields. 

Warden Topps is responsible for the care, custody, safety and control of all offenders incarcerated in the Washington Parish Jail. On a daily basis, he supervises the transport of Department of Corrections offenders and ensures that proper health care is provided to them.  Warden Topps maintains compliance with federal, state, and local laws as it pertains to the daily operations of the WPSO facility.  

The Washington Parish Jail employs the warden, an assistant warden, 20 corrections officers, 1 food programs supervisor, 1 part time medical doctor and 3 clerical support employees. 

Warden Topps takes pride in operating the jail with the utmost level of professionalism and courtesy. He interacts with family members of those that have loved ones incarcerated at the Washington Parish Jail.
